“As a child, my mother always called me the “Pied Piper” because I would often come home from school with a puppy or kitten in tow.”

Jonel Wagoner, Founder of Kokopelli Moon

How we started this journey

As Jonel got older, she joined her mother in her efforts to educate animal owners in first aid, training, and animal behavior. They learned so much from the farmers and ranchers around them, from doing research, and especially by partnering with the wonderful veterinarians in their lives. Jonel’s mother worked tirelessly as a 4-H leader, patiently working with children for over 48 years. Jonel believes that’s where her journey started.

Jonel realized that her heart would always be dedicated to rescuing unwanted souls and she was determined to continue her mother’s legacy. Growing up in the Southwest, Jonel fell in love with the flute-playing Hopi god, Kokopelli. He reminded her dearly of the nickname her mother gave her as a child;  thus, the business name Kokopelli Moon was born.

Jonel met her business partner, Dakota, when he reached out to her for help when he rescued a dog. He made the decision to join her on this journey, and they haven’t looked back. Their motto is, “....until they all have a home…
